Bearded Collies Like Spring and All But . . .

Finally, a few days without rain. Means I get to go out for walks, which I LOVE. Gotta go early, though, because if I wait too long, it's gets too warm for me. I'm a heat wimp. And the thermometer hasn't even reached 60 yet!

I wonder if it's just me or if all bearded collies are like me. I run hot, that's all there is to it!

Eating in Style

Decided it was time to make it a little easier for Stella at chow time. Instead of reaching down to the floor to snap up all that yummy sawdust kibble for senior hounds (see blue table setting), she now dines just a little more elegantly. Although sawdust kibble is sawdust kibble is sawdust kibble, it may taste a whole lot better going down now that she's taking it in standing up.

Oh - and the green beans. Can't forget about them. Green bean garnish makes everything tastier, too!

Is It a Treat? Is It a Bone? No, It's a Bean!

I would have never believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Stella loves green beans right out of the can. Would have never thunk it in a thousand years.

The last time Stella's vet Devon was over for her check-up (very lucky to have a wonderful house-call vet), she weighed Stella. It's wasn't pretty. Her weight had gone up to over 90 pounds. Among other bad things about all that extra weigh, it's extra hard on Stella's backend.  And although I'm the greatest treat enabler - "I am the egg man, they are the egg men - I am the treat mom, er I mean, walrus goo goo g'joob" - I am also the greatest champion of her good health and long life.

Devon had mentioned it before, but she said it again. "Give her green beans. No calories and dogs love them." "Oh sure, I thought." Then aloud, "Okay, green beans it is for you Stella." During the next shopping trip, several cans of green beans landed in the cart.

That night, while preparing Stella's dinner, I opened a can of the beans and handed her one. She took it. I handed her another one. She took that one. Omigawd - she loved the darn things. I was seeing and still not believing. Now I sprinkle a handful of them over her kibble (sawdust pellet for seniors) and she dives in. When she thinks she should have a treat, out from the fridge comes the can of beans. And when they're cold like that, she really goes for them.

Stella and the Upside Down Beans

I'm not sure what the pudge ball weighs now, but if the green bean treats haven't made a difference, I'll be flabbergasted.

Reminiscing with Old Friends

Went to a birthday party last night and an old friend showed up - Stella's original rescuer. Neither of us could believe that 12 years have passed since the day she was found.

Good times, good friends, good dog.

A Facelift for Stella's Site

Stella and I decided that it was time to update her site. Rather than go the strict HTML route (which takes me forever and a day to do), we decided to try something a little different. We looked at the SquareSpace option before but didn't take it anywhere.

Since there was still a link to it on the desktop, it was a no brainer to check it out again. So here we are, making our way through a new program - one step forward, two back, a few craps, and then every once in while an "ah hah!"
