I would have never believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Stella loves green beans right out of the can. Would have never thunk it in a thousand years.
The last time Stella's vet Devon was over for her check-up (very lucky to have a wonderful house-call vet), she weighed Stella. It's wasn't pretty. Her weight had gone up to over 90 pounds. Among other bad things about all that extra weigh, it's extra hard on Stella's backend. And although I'm the greatest treat enabler - "I am the egg man, they are the egg men - I am the treat mom, er I mean, walrus goo goo g'joob" - I am also the greatest champion of her good health and long life.
Devon had mentioned it before, but she said it again. "Give her green beans. No calories and dogs love them." "Oh sure, I thought." Then aloud, "Okay, green beans it is for you Stella." During the next shopping trip, several cans of green beans landed in the cart.
That night, while preparing Stella's dinner, I opened a can of the beans and handed her one. She took it. I handed her another one. She took that one. Omigawd - she loved the darn things. I was seeing and still not believing. Now I sprinkle a handful of them over her kibble (sawdust pellet for seniors) and she dives in. When she thinks she should have a treat, out from the fridge comes the can of beans. And when they're cold like that, she really goes for them.
Stella and the Upside Down Beans
I'm not sure what the pudge ball weighs now, but if the green bean treats haven't made a difference, I'll be flabbergasted.
